Abstract

Introduction: Progestin-only contraceptive injections are contraceptive injections that only contain progestin hormones, including Depo Medroxy Progesterone Acetate. Side effects of injectable contraceptives include weight gain, because DMPA stimulates the appetite control center in the hypothalamus which can cause acceptors to eat more than usual, potentially causing weight gain. Research Objective: To determine the relationship between the duration of 3-month contraceptive use and weight changes in KB acceptors at the Pondok Pucung Health Center, South Tangerang City. Method: This type of research uses a cross-sectional approach, a sample size of 42 people with a non-probability sampling technique taken by purposive sampling. The research instrument uses a questionnaire, univariate and bivariate data analysis (Chi-square). Research Results: Most respondents were 20-39 years old (88.1%), duration of 3-month contraceptive injection use for >2 years (61.9%), increased weight changes (66.7%). The bivariate results using chi-square obtained p-value = 0.000 or p <0.05. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, there is a relationship between the duration of use of 3-monthly injectable contraception and changes in body weight in family planning acceptors at the Pondok Pucung Health Center, South Tangerang City. Suggestion: It is hoped that health workers at the health center will be more active, more informative, provide assistance, and monitor support in socializing family planning. So that public knowledge and public awareness of family planning, especially 3-month contraception, will increase.
